Birmingham Airport Flights & Bookings ... |
|
|
|
|
It's vital that all passengers shop around - whether it's online, in a travel agent or newspaper supplements - to get a great deal on a flight from Birmingham Airport.
Buying flights has been made easier, and cheaper, since the EU, in 1997, reduced restrictions on those selling flights, which then opened the doors for budget airlines
Use our links below to find some of the best ways to buy and book flights, including links to online bookings for Birmingham:

Before you start shopping around for your flight you need to have as much unofficial information about your trip as possible - be prepared with your travelling destination, your dates for travel and the departing airport. This will mean you get a far more accurate quotation.
Try finding cheap flights in: |
| |
- Newspaper travel sections
- Guidebooks and their websites
- Your destination's tourist board website
|
| Have a look at our Terminal Information section too, to find an A to Z of destinations and which airlines fly to them! This way your flight search can be a bit more targeted, so you'll save time and money. |

Booking A Flight -things to know... |
|
|
|
| |
|
| |
|
| |
|
| |
| Airline flight prices change all the time so even if you check with one airline and the price is too much, if you have the time to wait, check again a day or even a week later to see if the price has been reduced. |
|
| |
| |
Whilst you should get as many quotes for your flights as you can don't be afraid to book a great deal straight away, especially if it's a special offer that might be withdrawn. If you're unsure and want to further your search see if you can pay a small deposit to secure the deal.
Changing some of the details of your flight can save you a lot of money too - by flying a day before or later could save a bit. Smaller, local airports are often cheaper to fly from too. And also early or late flights can be cheaper. |
| |
| If you're calling travel agents or airlines direct call early or later in the day as they'll be less busy and more likely to do a really extensive search for you. Don't be afraid to ask if they know of any deals being released in a day or too either. |
| |
| Nested Tickets |
| |
Buying what's know as nested tickets can help you save money too.
These nested tickets work only when a usual midweek fare is over and above twice the price of an excursion fare (includes a Saturday stopover) to the same destination.
I.e. you've been quoted £150 for a flight from Heathrow to Belfast return going out on a Monday and coming back on the Friday of the same week but you can find a return that requires you to stay for a weekend and is priced £75 or less, it is worth buying a nested ticket.
Buy a £75 excursion return ticket leaving on Monday and coming back late in the next week. Then buy another £75 excursion return ticket with the outgoing flight from Belfast on the Friday of your return to Heathrow. The return journey of this second ticket should be dated early in the next week.
This means you basically buy two return flights for the price of one! If you nest the tickets for future travel you can make use of all the tickets and save money. It may seem a little confusing yes, but it could mean you get a cheaper deal. |
| |
| Split Tickets |
| |
Or consider buying a split ticket, which means that you break up your journey by changing flights, instead of a direct flight.
Your travel agent should be able to sell you split or nested tickets, although not all offer these options. |
| |
| Low Cost Airlines |
| |
Low cost airlines need you to book as early as possible for the best deal.
Bear in mind their prices might be more expensive that traditional carriers as your flight date draws closer, you need to book early.
Also remember you will still need to pay airport charges and taxes, even on those flights advertised at £1. Still a cheap flight, but it might end up costing £20, and remember, flights advertised are for a single trip, not return. |

| Book online as this usually saves a few pounds. |

Best Ways To Miss Delays & Get Legroom ... |
|
|
|
| |
|
| |
| Never guaranteed but always best to try and secure some extra legroom if you can, and also book certain flights that are less likely to be delayed - use some of these tips: |
|
| |
|
| |
- Tour operators with their own airlines such as Thomson let you pre-book seats for a fee when purchasing a package holiday.
These supplement prices that give you better in-flight meals and a bit more legroom.
www.thomson.co.uk
- Check if you can pre-book seats when you book your flight, and see if there's a seat guide online so you know where you'll be sitting.
If the airline will assign you a seat tell them which seat number you would ideally like, perhaps an exit seat for more space.
- By booking a flights that leaves first or last in the day are less likely to be delayed. Avoid code-sharing tickets where you can, this is when two airlines take you to your destination.
Direct flights are better to avoid delays too.
- Ask about the plane's seat pitch in the class you are travelling. This means the distance between your seat and the one in front of it - your legroom. Experts say 31 inches (79cm) should be the minimum for a 6ft (1.83m) person on a long flight.

The most likely way to get an upgrade is if a passenger has been what's called 'bumped'.
This is when passenger numbers for flights go wrong and the airline needs a number of passengers to volunteer to be bumped on to the next available flight.
If the delay is over several hours passengers are most likely to get travel vouchers, cash or an upgrade.
If the delay is less passengers are normally be offered a phone card, food voucher, temporary pass to the executive lounge or, a room at an airport hotel.
If you are bumped ask for an upgrade for the inconvenience, if available many airlines agree to this request. |

Booking Through Travel Agents... |
|
|
|
| |
|
| |
When you book your flight through a travel agent they are paid a commission from the airlines, so remember to push for a good deal as both want your business.
On any quotes given make sure they are confirming all the details of your trip, not
vague promises of airlines and hotels and check the small print too on any special offer. |
| |
| Additional Ways To Save |
| |
- Ask your union, or if you work for a large organisation, if they have access to good deals.
|
| |
- Brochure prices can be beaten on most holidays when booking flight and accommodation yourself.
|
| |
- Carrying goods in your luggage for reputable Couriers can save you money on a flight but you do have to be prepared to be flexible.
|
| |
- Book a European city breaks directly on the Internet and you can save a lot of money.

Try booking your trip online by visiting sites like Expedia, these such sites show what airlines are travelling where along with prices and dates of travel.
Always make sure that any booking you make is covered by Atol (Air Travel Organisers' Licensing). It's also worth only giving your payment details if the website's server is secure, if so the padlock symbol will show up.
After you've bought your ticket you'll get an email confirming your details. This is where the law states that your Atol protection will be confirmed on your this booking confirmation email.
Priceline.co.uk is a site that lets you bid for flights. Airlines will sell flights around 20-30% lower, but there are often severe restrictions so check the small print !
www.ukfrenzy.co.uk checks the Internet for any specials deals and offers so by signing up you will know of them too.
Travel newsgroups are a good way to see if anyone has noticed any good deals. Go to groups.google.com and search for "rec.travel" or "rec.travel.air". |
